What does Halloween feel like before anyone arrives?

We began with the minute when a room is dressed, the candles are lit, and the guests have not yet knocked.
Halloween is most interesting at that threshold: sugar can look like blood; a ribbon can become a web; a cartoon ghost can feel tender instead of frightening. We translated that tension into distinct characters—some romantic, some playful, some beautifully severe.
“The collection lives where costume ends and character begins.”
Candy, ribbons, church silver, bones, pumpkins and hand-drawn ghosts became our starting vocabulary.
